Set up ChatGPT.

ChatGPT connects to your croft as a custom MCP server. It's a few more clicks than Claude, but you only do it once - then just chat.

Heads up

Connecting ChatGPT needs ChatGPT Plus or better - its connector/MCP support isn't available on the free tier. On the free plan you'll need to upgrade, or connect Claude instead.

The full ChatGPT setup, start to finish.
Your connection link
https://mcp.oncroft.net

Find your croft's exact link in your dashboard under Connect an AI assistant and copy it from there.

  1. Copy your connection link

In your croft dashboard, open Connect an AI assistant and hit Copy. It looks like https://mcp.oncroft.net.

  2. Turn on Developer mode

In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Plugins and enable Developer mode. That's what lets you add a custom MCP server.

  3. Add a new plugin

Open the Plugins section and click the + button at the top right, next to the plugins search box.

  4. Fill in Croft's details

Name it Croft and set the connection URL to the link you copied (https://mcp.oncroft.net). Tick the box to agree to using custom MCP servers, then click Create.

  5. Connect and sign in

Click Connect and sign in to authenticate Croft with ChatGPT. If you're asked about tool permissions, choose "Always allow."

Works with any MCP assistant

The idea is the same for any assistant that speaks MCP - add a server, point it at your link, authorize - even if the menus are named a little differently. And because Croft keeps your apps behind your login no matter what, letting your assistant work freely never puts your data in front of strangers.

Connected. Now describe an app in ChatGPT and it lands on your croft.
