Claude artifact

Definition

A Claude artifact is an interactive preview Claude creates inside a chat session: a calculator, a model, a small UI, or a one-page tool you can click through while you are still talking to the assistant. Similar ideas show up elsewhere as ChatGPT canvases or other AI previews. The artifact is great for building in the moment. It is not, by itself, a shared app your colleagues can open tomorrow with shared data and a proper login.

Why it matters

People in accounts and ops often get a working prototype in Claude and then hit a wall on sharing. Emailing HTML, pasting screenshots, or leaving a public paste open are common workarounds, and they fail for real work. There is usually no lasting app database, no company login, and every person ends up with a different copy.
